One-Page, Five-Page or Online Shop: Which Website Does Your Business Need?

Loudfire team 29 September 2026 6 min read

Choosing the wrong type of website is one of the most common and most expensive mistakes small businesses make. Build too little and you'll outgrow it in months. Build too much and you'll pay for pages nobody visits. This guide walks through the three main options so you can pick the one that fits your business today, with room to grow.

Option 1: A one-page website

A one-page website puts everything on a single scrolling page: who you are, what you do, examples of your work, reviews and how to get in touch.

It's a good fit if:

  • You offer one main service, such as a dog groomer, personal trainer or mobile mechanic
  • You're just starting out and need to look professional quickly
  • Most of your customers come from word of mouth and just need to check you're legitimate
  • You want to be online within a week

The limitation is search. One page can only rank well for a small number of search terms, so if you offer several distinct services, a one-page site will struggle to show up for all of them.

Option 2: A multi-page business website

A five to ten page website gives each of your main services its own page, plus an about page, a contact page and often a blog.

It's a good fit if:

  • You offer several services that people search for separately
  • You want to rank on Google for searches like 'electrician in Cheltenham' and 'EV charger installation Gloucestershire'
  • You need to explain your process, pricing or credentials in more detail
  • You want to publish articles or case studies over time

Separate service pages are one of the most effective things you can do for local SEO. Each page can target its own search term, answer its own questions and include its own call to action.

Option 3: An e-commerce website

An e-commerce website lets customers browse products, add them to a basket and pay online.

It's a good fit if:

  • You sell physical or digital products
  • You want to take payments without phone calls or invoices
  • You need to manage stock, shipping and discount codes
  • You want to reach customers beyond Gloucestershire

E-commerce sites take longer to build because every product needs good photos, clear descriptions and accurate pricing. Plan for the time it takes to prepare that content, not only the build.

A quick way to decide

  • One service, small budget, need it fast: one-page website
  • Several services, want to be found on Google: multi-page business website
  • Selling products online: e-commerce website

Can you start small and upgrade later?

Yes. If your site is built on WordPress, a one-page site can grow into a five-page site, and a business site can add a shop later. Many of our clients start with a Spark website and move to Grow as their business takes off.
